To take part in the SAXophone project you'll need access to suitable compressed video equipment. This includes compressed video equipment that can range from a desktop unit to a set top unit to a group system. The desktop unit is a card that goes into your own computer and comes with the needed software, a small camera, and a telephone for voice, but it still must be connected into an ISDN phone line. The computer monitor (or a projected image) shows the other schools in the conference session. The set top unit consists of a small box containing everything that was on the computer card (the Codec, the camera, the ISDN phone connectors, etc.) but in a larger size for better quality. It sits on top of a TV set and connects into the TV monitor to give you the images of the other schools. The group system is the most highly desired but it costs significantly more. Everything is basically a separate item and of much higher quality and will accommodate many more studnts at one site since the camera, TV monitor, etc. are larger and higher quality (and cost).
