The SAXophone or Students All around the world eXchanging Over the Phone Project began in November of 1995 when three schools in New York, one in Florida, and one in Sweden, connected with videoconferencing to share how they celebrated various winter holidays. Using standard videoconferencing (or picture telephone) technology the students participated in real time across six time zones. The project closed in January 2006. It was coordinated by Al Mizell of Nova Southeastern University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida with the video bridge provided by BECON (Broward County Public Schools). The project had an international board of advisors from Wyoming, Texas, New Jersey, New York, England, and Sweden.
