Transportation Information Middle and High Schools have city wide transportation to Magnets.
The school district is divided into seven elementary magnet zones for transportation purposes. Middle schools and high schools are not zoned. Transportation is provided to elementary school children who reside within a zone that is served by the magnet school they attend. Transportation is provided to all middle and high school students who apply by the magnet application deadline.
Currently, buses providing transportation to 19,500 magnet school students travel 18,410 miles daily. Approximately 2,300 elementary students ride the bus to a hub school where they are transferred to another bus for transportation to their magnet school. The average time students spend on the bus is 45 minutes one way for a daily total of 90 minutes.
Parents are advised to review the current bus routes with the magnet school bus coordinator to find a stop within one mile of the preferred location. While the stop does not have to be at the student's home, it must be in the same location in the morning and afternoon. If a stop within one mile does not exist, parents may submit an Application for New Magnet Bus Stop. Applications are included with the acceptance letter or available online. The application includes information regarding where to mail or fax the form.
Students can go out of zone, but no transportation is provided.

To be eligible for a new bus stop by the first day of school, the application must be received by the Transportation Department by May 21, 2004.
Application Information Lottery system with priority to free and reduced lunch students and students going from Title 1 to Magnet. Also, a priority is given to non-free/reduced lunch students to Title 1 Magnet. Admission to all magnet programs is considered to be "open admission." Generally, there are no entrance requirements for students to choose a school.

IB program has a different process than the Lottery.
