The Stars Were Shining at Curriculum Writing '07
PROMOSING PRACTICES
BY Connie Scotchel-Gross
Over sixty-five Career and Technical Education (CTE) teachers collaborated during a four day Curriculum Writing workshop held at Palm Beach Central High School from June 11-14, 2007. Among the Career and Technical Education teachers, seven high school math teachers joined the writing teams to help identify and extract the math FCAT concepts embedded within the CTE curriculum.
Kathleen Harris, Administrator from the Florida Public School Choice Consortium, presented an interactive activity titled, "Motivating Students with Highly Engaging Authentic Activities." Ms. Harris shared her vast knowledge about curriculum development and worked one on one with the curriculum writing groups.
Monroe County's Career Education District Coordinator, Mark Hooper and Web Design teacher Paul Davis, traveled to Palm Beach County to collaborate with CTE teachers in a joint effort to develop program curricula in which both counties will implement next school year.
The Career Education team would like to extend their gratitude to Palm Beach County CTE teachers for their hard work and dedication. A special thank you goes out to Palm Beach Central Community High School's administration and staff for their generous hospitality throughout the four days.
