Florida Quality Sponsoring Workgroup: Renewal Decision-making

July 10th through July 12th , 2007

The Workgroup started at 10 with introductions and a brief tribute to Dr. Carlo R. Rodriguez.   The groups also was able to vocalize concerns to the Florida Department of Education representative present, Jean Miller.   The attendees split up into two groups of five to discuss what was presented from NASCA the compiled and edited work of what the group worked on last month on the renewal process along with what a possible Timing consideration for us to review and work on.   Our mission was to review the compiled and edited changes to see if they worked and if they aligned with State Statutes. The categories remained #1 Educational/Academic Performance, #2 Organizational Performance, and #3 Financial Performance.

At noon, we had a working lunch to review and discuss timing considerations for the reviewing process and when to notify the school of non renewal (90 days is required in statutes).   We, as a group, created a Best Practice Timeline for the renewal process which consisted of the following draft:

June 30th: Notification to school that renewal process will begin and they are up for renewal at the end of the school year

            September: Packet to School

            December: Packet Complete

            October - January: Site Visits

February - March: Review with all parties

February - March: School & District Meeting

March 30 th: 90 day notice of renewal or non renewal

The meeting adjourned early at 2:00 PM

I have the copy of the Indicators and Standard along with my notes for your review.
